This is a practical starter notice for Get Me Online (getmeonline.co.za). It is written in plain English for visitors and clients in South Africa. It is not legal advice.
Who is responsible
The responsible party under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) is Get Me Online, a South African service owned and operated by Brian de Beer.
Information Officer: Brian de Beer (owner).
- Email: brian@getmeonline.co.za
- WhatsApp: message us on WhatsApp
- Website: getmeonline.co.za
What personal information we collect
Depending on how you contact us, we may collect:
- Name and business name
- Phone number and WhatsApp number
- Email address
- WhatsApp messages and the files you send us
- Business details needed to build your site and Google Business Profile (address, hours, photos, logo, services)
- Billing details for invoices
- Technical data such as IP address, browser type, and basic server logs from our host
Why we collect it
We use personal information to:
- Reply to enquiries and send quotes
- Deliver website, Google Business Profile / Maps, and related services
- Provide support during and after a project
- Issue invoices and keep reasonable business records
- Protect the site and diagnose technical issues
We do not buy marketing lists. We do not send marketing emails from pre-ticked boxes. If we ever ask to send optional updates, that will be a clear opt-in you can refuse.
Lawful basis and consent
We process information because it is needed to take steps at your request before a contract, to perform a contract with you, or because we have a legitimate interest in running a small service business and keeping the website secure.
Where POPIA requires consent (for example optional marketing), we will ask you. You can withdraw consent by emailing brian@getmeonline.co.za or messaging us on WhatsApp. Withdrawal does not affect work already done or records we must keep by law.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information. We only share it with processors who need it to help us operate, for example:
- Website hosting (currently Vercel)
- Email and, if you choose it as an add-on, Google Workspace
- WhatsApp / Meta, as the channel you use to message us — not as a buyer of your data from us
- Google, when we set up Google Business Profile / Maps or (optional) Analytics on a client site
Those providers process information under their own terms. We ask them only for what the job needs.
Cross-border processing
Our website is hosted on Vercel, whose infrastructure may be outside South Africa (including the United States and the European Union). Email and Workspace, if used, may also store information outside South Africa.
By using this site or contracting with us, you understand that some information may be processed in other countries. We take reasonable steps to work with reputable providers and to send only what is needed.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiry messages for as long as needed to quote and follow up, then for a reasonable period in case you return. Client project files, invoices, and tax records are kept for as long as South African tax and business rules reasonably require — typically at least five years for financial records. We delete or anonymise information when we no longer need it, unless the law says we must keep it.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures: limited access, reputable hosting, and care with passwords and devices. No online service is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a security compromise that affects you, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires where applicable.
Your rights
You may ask us to:
- Confirm whether we hold your personal information
- Access a record of it
- Correct or update it
- Delete it where we are not required to keep it
- Object to certain processing
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
Send the request to brian@getmeonline.co.za or WhatsApp. Please include enough detail for us to find your records. We will respond within 30 days where practical.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa: inforegulator.org.za. POPIA complaints can be sent to POPIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za.
Cookies and analytics
This marketing site does not currently run its own marketing or analytics cookies (we do not embed Google Analytics on getmeonline.co.za). Our host may set strictly technical cookies or logs needed to deliver the pages, balance traffic, or protect against abuse.
If we add analytics later, we will update this notice and, where required, ask for consent. Google Analytics on a client website (for example as part of Get Busy) is configured on that client’s site under their own responsibility once live.
Children
Our services are for businesses and adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this notice. The effective date at the top is the current version. Continued use of the site after a change means you have seen the updated notice.
